Swatch Watches: The Unprecedented

Swatch Watches are what their outstanding Swiss quality and performance make them.

They made their debut in 1983 with a mission to counter the rising trend of Japanese digital watches and reignite interest in analog timepieces in the era of digital technology. Thanks to aggressive marketing, Swatch watches quickly gained worldwide popularity - from Canada to UAE. This worked wonders in restoring the reputation of Swiss watchmakers.

These became a fun fashion accessory, particularly popular during the vibrant mid-1980s. Further, they introduced innovative models like the Pop Swatch - designed to be attached to clothing or used as ponytail bands, featuring bright colours and designs from famous artists like Keith Haring. Also, the use of new synthetic plastic materials led some Swatch watches to become coveted collectibles.

The Widely Loved Watch Families By Swatch

The five Swatch watch families consist of:

  • Originals - featuring plastic cases
  • Irony - with metallic body watches
  • Skin - ultra-thin at 3.9 mm, including the Original Skin and Chronograph model
  • Beat - a digital timepiece
  • Bijoux - designed with jewelry in mind and collaborating with Swarovski for decorative touches

Persistent Innovation By The Experts

Swatch remains committed to constantly surprising the watch industry through the ingenuity of its designers. These designers never fail to harness the full potential of available technology. A significant reduction in the number of components, known as "Revolution 51," has paved the way for inventive assembly techniques. Ongoing progress in technology, materials, and design has led to the creation of SISTEM51.

This guarantees that a groundbreaking Swiss mechanical watch is now within reach for a wide array of customers.

Swatch Art Collaborations

Swatch watches have consistently drawn inspiration from contemporary popular culture. They made their watches into canvases for world-renowned artists encompassing painters, sculptors, musicians, and filmmakers.

The first artist to join forces with Swatch was Christian Chapiron in 1984, resulting in the iconic Kiki Picasso Swatch. Simultaneously, American painter and graffiti artist Keith Haring contributed to the Swatch lineup with four distinctive designs. This marked the beginning of an enduring series of artistic partnerships!

Each Swatch Art Special edition showcases the artist's vision with packaging that is just as captivating and inventive as the watches themselves.

Over the years, Swatch has featured creations by a diverse range of artists - in Canada or somewhere else, online or not. The amazing artists included:

  • Alfred Hofkuns
  • Jean-Michel Folon
  • Sam Francis
  • Mimmo Paladino
  • Mimmo Rotella
  • Nam June Paik
  • Not Vital
  • Akira Kurosawa
  • Spike Lee
  • Renzo Piano
  • Moby and many more.
